As you know I love checking out and collecting movie posters! With teases of what to expect from the featured film, posters are one of my favorite parts of the whole cinematic experience. If you love movie posters like I do, then you are likely to enjoy the latest ones of the week!
It’s that time again, and, as usual my friend, Bubbawheat (from Flights, Tights and Movie Nights) and I both share our thoughts on the movie posters recently released. These silent movie promoters are the results of the creative brainstorming of some talented (most of them) artists and sometimes can be even more thrilling than the movie they are advertising. Several interesting posters this week. Some I like quite a bit. I’m a fan of the Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit poster. It reminds me of a poster for Buried (see it HERE). And as silly as it is to see giant Ron Burgundy in Times Square, I love it. Anchorman 2 looks to be as funny as it promises to be (time will tell). Altered Perception makes me shiver and thus wins points for grabbing my attention. It is a different style for what could have been very easy to ruin but it succeeds in being well done.
I like the color of the foreign poster for Charlie Countryman but still have no desire to watch it. I’m disappointed in the posters for I’ll Follow You Down and Kill Your Darlings. That style is so overused in posters and does nothing to tease what the film is about. RoboCop, however, is pretty sweet (when it comes to solo character posters). I like the look of the motorcycle behind him. It’s a pretty sweet poster (I hope the movie is too).
Of course, I think the poster for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is smokin! (and so is Gandalf). And I like the All Is Lost poster with Robert Redford hanging on the the boat for dear life. It portrays the desperation and fight for survival. So many different posters this week but overall not a bad batch.
My faves of the week: Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, Altered Perception and the first poster for All is Lost.

Bubbawheat–
There’s some nicely artistic posters out this week and I do actually like quite a few of them. Altered Perception has a couple nice extra details like the word “Defense” in the iris which makes me think it might be more of a psychological thriller rather than a gory shock horror which is often the case with a poster doing something to someone’s eye. I also like the weird neon swirls and the Japanese title for The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. I also really like the pseudo spiral design for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, it’s something that I haven’t really seen before. As far as some of the more common/less artistic designs, I’m not sure what it is about it, but I like the poster for the Truth About Emanuel and Child of God. It’s also interesting to see Haley Joel Osment all grown up in I’ll Follow You Down, though I’m not as much a fan of washing the entire poster in that shade of blue.
Some of the lesser posters starts off with Delivery Man, using the same schlubby pose for Vince Vaughn and adding a whole bunch of random kids doesn’t make me more interested in the movie. I’m also not entirely convinced about the new RoboCop, though the recent second trailer does have my interest. The Hobbit poster looks good, but it doesn’t really bring anything new to the design, and while I love the Ghibli style, I don’t quite understand obscuring the faces of the two, I’m supposing, main characters of The Wind Rises.
