As you know I love checking out and collecting movie posters! With teases of what to expect from the featured film, posters are one of my favorite parts of the whole cinematic experience. If you love movie posters like I do, then you are likely to enjoy the latest ones of the week!
It’s that time again, and, as usual my friend, Bubbawheat (from Flights, Tights and Movie Nights) and I both share our thoughts on the movie posters recently released. These silent movie promoters are the results of the creative brainstorming of some talented (most of them) artists and sometimes can be even more thrilling than the movie they are advertising. The neat thing about posters sometimes is that certain ones make you want to know what the promoted film is all about when you have no prior idea. That proves to be the case with several of this week’s posters, starting with She Rises. I have NO idea what that film is about. Is it Medusa? Is it Eve? Is it Aphrodite? No idea, but the mix of snakes in her hair is definitely striking and the old school horror flick style of the poster is gripping (Kind of the same feeling for me for the unknown The Best Offer). Another that fits in this category for me is A Reason. The worried or knowing watchful eyes contained in the title make this poster all the more interesting. So many posters for “unknowns” that I find strikingly interesting.
Other posters I enjoy this week: The character-filled poster for The Grand Budapest Hotel has a key/vacancy spot as to be inviting us, the would-be viewers, to join the hotel. Wes Anderson is sure to delight audiences with his next film. Not a fan of Grand Piano as the fractured look is all-too similar to Elijah Wood’s recent film, Maniac (see poster HERE). The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug is yet another impressive poster. Not sure Scrooge McDuck would want to swim through all of that treasure with Smaug underneath it. :) After seeing the trailer for The Other Woman (watch trailer HERE), the poster is very effective and hilarious as well. I like it.
I, Frankenstein poster includes the gargoyles in the background as a nice touch while Need for Speed could use more background. I do very much like the 3 Days to Kill poster giving off a vibe of a man with two sides and who seems to be taken over by darkness. The trailer also brings that out and makes the poster pretty impressive. There are no gray areas in the poster (aside from his hair) making everything either black or white.
My faves of the week: The Grand Budapest Hotel, 3 Days to Kill and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

I agree with T about the posters where you have no idea about, which happens to me much more often as I don’t watch nearly as many trailers as I used to and instead only find out about the less widely released films through the sites and podcasts I follow. And yet there are also several that have the opposite effect, like the rather bland poster for Amazing Spider-Man 2, and I’m not nearly as fond of this Hobbit poster than I was of the last one with the dragon’s eye. And I’ve seen a few Hercules in my day and Kellan Lutz is no Hercules, at least not how he looks in this poster. And lastly, that Need for Speed poster just isn’t working, especially that blue and orange color scheme.
The posters that do interest me this time around are 300 Rise of an Empire, it’s always nice to see another strong woman represented in film, there are so few of them. I also quite like the contrast in 24 Exposures and am just as intrigued as T about the She Rises poster. Another one that sparks my curiosity is The Fault in our Stars, it appears to be an atypical love story involving someone with a serious illness. I also disagree with T about the Grand Piano poster, while it does use the broken glass again, I feel like it uses it in a different way and does enough things differently to make it stand out.
